Over the years, Starbucks has allowed customers to request healthful substitutes such as soy milk, sugar-free syrup, and no whipped cream. Now, customers get an exact idea of the amount of calories they consume.

By providing calorie counts, customers can quickly decide what they would like to order, and are more aware of their daily calorie consumption. Customers can decide whether they would like the 560 calorie Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino with or without whipped cream: taking out the whipped cream in any frappuccino takes out nearly 140 calories.

Corporations such as McDonald’s and Panera Bread have said that they will also post menu calories nationwide, but this will not affect consumers in certain parts of the U.S. In 2008, California was the first state to pass a law for menu-labeling; since then, cities like New York City and Seattle have done so as well.
