For me, coming home for the summer means trading my busy school schedule for an equally busy work schedule. Unlike school, however, the work doesn’t come with free yoga classes (well, they come out of tuition and housing, but you know what I mean). That’s where this app saved me.
At $3.99, Yoga Studio by Modern Lotus has it all.
The app features 24 hours of beautiful premade HD video classes developed and performed by a qualified instructor who I swear can read my mind. Every time she gives advice in her videos, it’s always exactly what I’m doing wrong or where I’m holding tension. It’s amazing.
Creating your own class is incredibly easy. You can start from scratch, or use their handy tools like pose blocks
(short sequences of poses that can be used like building blocks to make classes), smart-link (connect poses that might not naturally lead into each other–“like magic yoga glue”), and video stitch (“you make the class, and we’ll make the video”). I’ve started making small videos that fit in the down time of my day: a five minute class while breakfast cooks, a ten minute class for in the shower, another five minutes for TV commercial breaks, etc. Yoga Studio works for iPhone, iPad, and iPad Mini, so you can use it anywhere and anytime.
Other features: a searchable 280 pose library with step-by-step instructions, list of benefits, modifications, variations and cautions for each pose, and the ability to schedule classes that sync with your calendar.
The only downside is that the app doesn’t sync across devices, so a class you make, download, or schedule on one device doesn’t show up on another, which is inconvenient.
Yoga Studio is a great way to fit a little more fitness into your busy life. If you’re looking for more strength, balance, flexibility, relaxation, or all of the above, this app is for you.
